Cost shouldn't be the reason you put this off. Below is exactly what you can expect to pay, whether you're using insurance or paying out of pocket. If anything here is unclear, Contact Us, and we'll walk you through it — no obligation, no pressure to book.

Insurance

Barela Counseling is in-network with:

  • Aetna

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas

  • Cigna

  • Optum / UnitedHealthcare

What you actually pay depends on your specific plan — your copay, coinsurance, and whether you've met your deductible. Two people with the same insurance card can owe very different amounts.

The fastest way to find out is to call the member services number on the back of your card and ask about your outpatient mental health benefits. Ask specifically about your copay, your remaining deductible, and whether you need a referral. If you'd rather not make that call alone, send me your information and I'll check your benefits for you before we schedule.

Out-of-network: If your plan isn't listed above, many policies still reimburse a portion of out-of-network care. I can provide a monthly superbill — an itemized receipt you submit to your insurer for reimbursement.

Self-Pay Rates

Service Rates:

Individual counseling $100

Couples counseling $125

Family counseling$125

All sessions are 50 minutes. (Family or Couples may go longer)

Payment is due at the time of service. Cash, credit and debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards are accepted.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care will cost.

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers are required to give clients who are uninsured or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your scheduled service. You can also ask for one before scheduling. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate in a safe place. For questions or more information, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.

Cancellations

Life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 24 hours' notice so the time can go to someone else. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice, may be charged the full self-pay rate — insurance does not cover missed appointments.
